There is something extra special about photographing a family for the very first time, especially when that family has traveled from out of state to have their portraits taken on the beautiful Florida coast. This Melbourne Beach family photography session was my first time working with this wonderful blended family, and we had such a fun evening together creating photographs that felt as unique and genuine as they are.
Blended families have their own beautiful stories, personalities, and dynamics, and I love finding ways to let all of that come through in a family session. Since this was their first family photo session together, I wanted the experience to feel relaxed and enjoyable rather than overly structured or formal. We spent plenty of time getting those classic, beautifully posed family portraits, but we also made room for the silly stuff—the laughter, playful interactions, goofy expressions, and those wonderfully imperfect moments that often end up being everyone’s favorite images.
Mom also happens to have her own blog, so storytelling is already a big part of her world. It felt fitting that this session became a little story of its own: a family traveling to Melbourne Beach, Florida, spending time together by the ocean, and documenting this particular season of their lives.
